Choosing where to stay in Paris is often more important than choosing the hotel itself. The right neighbourhood means shorter walking distances, easier evenings, and a trip that feels relaxed instead of rushed.
These are four hotels in arrondissements that work especially well for first-time visitors – three in central Paris and one in Montmartre, for a slightly different atmosphere.

If you want to stay central, the 8th arrondissement is one of the easiest areas to base yourself in Paris. These two hotels are both in this area.
These are hotels I would personally choose in different areas of Paris.
Hotel Opéra Marigny – 8th arrondissement (Madeleine area)

Hotel Opéra Marigny is located in the 8th arrondissement, but in a quieter part of the district near Madeleine. This is a great location if you are on a romantic trip and want to stay central while avoiding the busiest streets.
You can walk to the Louvre, the Tuileries Garden, and the Seine, and the surrounding streets have plenty of cafés, bakeries and cosy restaurants.

West End Hotel – 8th arrondissement (near Champs-Élysées)

West End Hotel is in the 8th arrondissement, close to Avenue Montaigne and within walking distance of both the Seine and the Champs-Élysées.
This is a good choice if you prefer smaller hotels with character rather than large chains. The building and interiors feel classic Parisian, and the side streets nearby are quieter than you might expect in such a central area.

Several rooms have balconies with direct views of the Arc de Triomphe. If you can, book one of these – it makes the stay feel more special. When you are in Paris, a city known for its pastries, I recommend taking breakfast at one of the boulangeries on the side streets.
The location of Splendid Étoile means you can walk to the Champs-Élysées, Arc de Triomphe (2 minutes), and multiple metro lines.

Terrass” Hotel – 18th arrondissement (Montmartre area)

If you want a stay that feels a bit more “Paris” than practical, Terrass” Hotel is a strong pick in Montmartre (the 18th arrondissement) is a strong pick. If you’re choosing between central Paris and Montmartre, this is the kind of hotel that makes Montmartre feel like the right decision.

I haven’t stayed overnight here, but I have been to the rooftop bar – and it’s exactly the kind of place I would choose if I wanted Montmartre as my base. The atmosphere felt stylish but relaxed, and you’re close to the hill, the views, and the quieter streets that make this part of Paris feel more local once the day-trippers are gone.
The trade-off is simple: you won’t be in the middle of the classic sights, but you will get at neighbourhood with personality – and easy metro connections when you want to dip into central Paris.
At a glance
• Best for: couples, first-time visitors who want to stay in Montmartre, a special city break
• Vibe: stylish, neighbourhood feel, a little romantic
• Good to know: Staying in Montmartre means a bit more metro time — but evenings here feel calmer and more local than the centre.
If the rooftop views and Montmartre atmosphere matter more to you than being in the tourist centre, this is a great choice.
