Things to do in Annecy

Things to do in Annecy

2 Days stay in Annecy by the French Alps

After we stayed in Beaune for one night we left towards Annecy, a well-known village by the French Alps. We stayed 2 nights at Clos Marcel hotel in the village called Duingt, which was just 10 min drive from Annecy. We were very excited about what room and service we would get, as I have heard that I shouldn’t expect too much from hotels when I book through a third-party provider. Well, let me tell you one thing – this was the third time and I couldn’t complain at all. We got a great room and a great service – every time! This post is no way sponsored!

The hotel was amazing – you can read the full review here. We booked a room with a view of the lake Annecy.

The lake held +25C and was absolutely perfect – the water was so clear and warm 🙂

Things to do in Annecy

Planning our road trip we decided we would spend two days in Annecy and go on at least one hike. We also found a small plane company which does flights over the lake and the French Alps that we booked for one evening. The first day we drove up to the Le Col de la Forclaz by Talloires just on the other side of the lake, to check out the views. You should definitely check this viewpoint if you are ever in the area. The view of the lake Annecy from above was stunning.

At the viewpoint, there were two paragliding platforms and many paragliders in the air. Our 12-year-old was bragging about how tough he was who wasn’t afraid to do the paragliding. We are just like the next pair of parents – wanted to teach him a lesson. The next day we drove back and he had to do it! And I’ll tell you he was tough even thou he was really nervous.

Getting ready

Since we were going to fly over the alps later that day neither I nor my husband did the paragliding. Cause you know – we are ain’t millionaires :)) But, guess what?? As we were waiting for Aleks to land and get back up, we got a phone call from the plane company that canceled our trip due to really poor weather conditions later in the evening 🙁

I just have to say that the guys who organize paragliding and instructors were really great. They had a GoPro and took a lot of shots and video while flying. The instructor spoke English well and Aleks could steer the sail. Overall we felt very safe. If you want to try it, look up Airmax Parapente or search them up on (this is not sponsored).

Ok, so back to the planned hikes – I had my tights and my Nikes on and was ready to go, straight after junior came back after his paragliding. We were walking down to meet our son and guess what – my husband’s leg injury kicked in. So here I was in the Alps, in a beautiful weather and was not going to hike, paraglide or on a plane trip over the Alps 🙁

I still had one thing I planned for – explore Annecy, which I heard so many nice things about. The first evening we had in Annecy it was pouring rain, so I thought “hey, new day tomorrow”. The next evening we went to Annecy it was more than pouring. It was thunder and lighting and traffic jam in and out of the city. So we managed to turn half the way, stop at McDonald’s to get some “food” for Aleks and drove back to the hotel. I don’t do good without food or sleep (that’s the worst case) so luckily for everybody the restaurant at our hotel had available table for us.

The conclusion

So Alps and Annecy didn’t go as planned BUT we had an amazing time and that is the most important thing. We’ve actually talked about going back for a long weekend, for some hiking and Annecy exploring :):) Despite the plans that didn’t work out I am not complaining and I am not disappointed at all. The area is so beautiful and I would go back anytime. And the food and wine in France is so worth taking a trip for.

There are several things to do in Annecy in summer. We are very laid back and chill, we love to spend some days by the pool or on the beach, but also love to be in nature or in a city. However, we don’t use our vacation go biking or swimming several miles a day. If you are looking for an active vacation, especially if you love hiking or biking Annecy is the place. There are several trails of different difficulties. You can get a map at Le Col de la Forclaz and probably other places too. You can go biking around lake Annecy and stop at the view-point for a great lunch. Annecy has so much to offer for everybody. Although our kids are getting bigger I still check other blogs for traveling with kids. I recently came over Kids love travel and they had so many inspiring adventures. Check it out here.

I love drone photography – it gives you much more options 🙂 We have a DJI Phantom4 – great camera quality and air stability, but it is a little bit big as you have to bring it in its own bag.

What a beautiful place! Sorry your plane got cancelled. Did your son enjoy the paragliding? I don’t think I have the courage to do that. The plane sounds more my speed.
