Where to stay in Split

On our 10 days vacation in Croatia, we stayed in a little town called Stobrec, located just on the outskirts of Split.
Ark Beach Apartments – was a family run 4* hotel in Stobrec, 15 min outside of Split. This hotel has 15 rooms, an outside pool, a roof terrace, a small parking lot and is located only a 1-minute walk to the beach. The breakfast was included and was served on the roof terrace overseeing the sea. Stobrec is located on the peninsula east of Split, only 5km from the Palace, in the delta of the river at the site of the ancient Zrnovnica. Once a small fishing village, but today is the administrative part of Split. Stobrec is surrounded by the islands of Brac, Hvar and mountain Mosor which offers many opportunities for a great stay.
Split is a 1700-year-old city by the sea where the Roman Emperor Diocletian built his spectacular Palace. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage site. If you are a fan of GOT, you can take a “Game of Thrones” walking tour taking you through the Palace’s cellars and Split’s streets where the scenes were shot.
Ark Beach Apartments – is one of the most popular accommodations in Stobrec and you should act quickly if you want to book here. Isolated and secluded by the sea, this hotel offers an intimate ambiance and a sense of privacy in complete harmony with its setting.
We stayed in a family apartment which had a dining room with a folding bed and kitchenette, a bedroom with a double bed and a bathroom with shower and toilet. Breakfast and cleaning every day were included. The kitchenette had a fridge, a coffee-making machine, a cooking stove, and a microwave. We never stayed in for dinner though but had our dinner out. It is still rather cheap in Croatia comparing to Italy and France.
The owner picked us up at the airport and he helped us with all our questions. The whole family was very friendly and went out of their way to help their guests. The host helped us rent a car for our day trip to Mostar. Read about our 10 days vacation and a day trip to Mostar in my Croatia itinerary here.
The breakfast was simple but it filled up your stomach. It was served on the roof terrace which had an outstanding view.
In the evening we got a glass of complimentary local wine or beer – on the same roof terrace as the breakfast, but to a beautiful sunset.
Ark Beach Apartments has a pool with a few sun beds. The pool is not that big but you will be able to do a few laps. There are umbrellas by the pool, but there are not enough sunbeds or umbrellas for all residents. So if you want to stay by the pool, be there early.
There are approximately 100 steps down to the pebble/stone beach just out of the pool area. The steps are in the shadow of the pine trees, so don’t worry about getting sunstroke walking up 🙂 There are also some swimming stuff (toys) for kids at the hotel and sun umbrellas, that you could borrow to bring to the beach with you.
Ark Beach Apartments is a great hotel, with friendly hosts who will make you feel more than welcome. Our room was called “Goat, Floor 3 – Sea View Apartment” and had a price of about 200 euro a night/room for 2 adults and 2 kids (age 10 and 13). Hotel’s location is perfect as it is close to the beach, dining or bus trips to Split. It will take you 10 minutes to walk down to “Centrum”, where you will find restaurants, shops and the bus stop to Split.
All in all, you get a great value for your money staying at Ark Beach Apartments in Stobrec.
